How many packs of braiding hair do I need?
There is no universal pack count because brands package different amounts of hair. For example, HairMetric's balanced starting estimate for medium, mid-back knotless braids on an average-size head is about 500–600g.
That total equals roughly 5–6 packs at 100g each or 10–12 packs at 50g each. Enter the total weight printed on your package, along with your braid size and finished length, to calculate the number of packs for your specific product.

Adjust for your head
Head circumference changes the approximate surface area being braided. The adjustment is deliberately modest around an average 22–22.5 inch head.
Convert grams into your packs
A 52g pack and a 100g pack are not equivalent. Your package weight is used only after the estimated total hair amount is calculated.

Flatten your hair as much as practical. Use a soft tape measure around your hairline: across the forehead, above the ears, around the back near the nape, and back to your starting point.

How many packs of braiding hair do I need for knotless braids?
The amount depends on braid size, finished length, desired fullness, head size and the grams contained in each pack. For a balanced medium, mid-back style, HairMetric's starting estimate is about 500–600g before personalized adjustments.
Do longer knotless braids require more braiding hair?
Yes. Longer braids generally require more extension hair per braid. HairMetric applies a larger baseline range as you move from shoulder to mid-back, waist and butt or tailbone length.
Does braid size change how many packs I need?
Yes. Smaller knotless braids usually create more individual sections and can require more total extension hair. Large and jumbo braids use fewer sections, although the amount placed into each braid may be larger.
Why does natural hair density matter?
Density can change how full the installation needs to look and how a braider distributes extension hair. Because technique varies, HairMetric uses density as a smaller modifier than braid size or finished length.
Why do you ask for grams?
“Pack” is inconsistent across brands. Some packages contain multiple bundles and total weights vary. Grams let the calculator compare products more consistently.
Does this include human hair pieces for boho braids?

Should I always buy the upper estimate?
If you can return an unopened extra pack and exact color matching matters, buying to the upper end is safer. If minimizing weight is your priority, discuss the lower end with your braider.
